Orchestra goes Celtic

The Stratford Symphony Orchestra will present “A Celtic Rant” this Saturday,  at 7:30 p.m. at Knox Church.

The third concert in the ninth symphony season is always a popular event, featuring Celtic favorites by the orchestra such as Charles Stanford’s Irish Rhapsody No. 1 and music from Lord of the Dance.

The concert will be conducted by Nigel Evans, well-known to area audiences for his many years as conductor of the Stratford Concert Band.

Guest artists include the Stratford Police Pipes and Drums, who will be performing one solo set, and the local group Rant Maggie Rant.

A Celtic dinner catered by Northwestern secondary school’s Screaming Avocado will precede the concert.  The special event, featuring traditional Celtic dishes and the “toast to the haggis,” is a fundraiser for the symphony.

Tickets are $60 and are available from the orchestra office by calling 519-271-0990 or emailing info@stratfordsymphonyorchestra.ca.
