Musical showcase at PRC to feature best of homegrown metal

It’s been a good few months for live music in St. Marys, with performances held in fair regularity at local pubs, restaurants, and even the Town Hall. Now that trend is set to continue with a musical showcase at the Pyramid Recreation Centre on Saturday, March 9. Whoever said these were the dull months of the year must live in another town.

Nathan Pope, bassist for local band We Live This Day, set up the show along with Afterparty Bookings, a promotional company out of London. “They contacted me…gave us this other band to do a show with that was touring around Ontario,” he explains.

That band is Forever Cadence, a melodic hardcore band currently making the rounds in southern Ontario. With help from Afterparty Bookings and the staff at the PRC, Pope was able to set up a show featuring his band, Forever Cadence, and a stellar line-up featuring the best of the Stonetown’s metal scene, including Decibel Chamber, Within the Wreckage, and The Walls of This Chamber.

“St. Marys doesn’t get a lot of chances to do something like this, so people might as well come and check it out,” says Pope.

Doors open at 6:30, with the first band taking the stage at 7. The show costs $10 at the door.

The line-up

The Walls of This Chamber — A four-piece deathcore band hailing from St. Marys and surrounding area. TWOTC features Mark Montgomery on vocals, Scott Layland on guitar, Ryan Kempen on bass, and Quin Gottschalk on drums. The four-piece will also be playing Metalfest at Backstage Bar and Grill in Stratford on Feb. 22.

Within the Wreckage — Made up of members of Escape form Dorchester and Evils New Era, this post-hardcore metal band has Bo Jackson and Scott Le Blanc on guitar, Brandon Blackler on drums, Josh Ward on vocals, and Tyson Robinson on bass. Their newest EP, recorded late last year, is set to be released any day now.

Decibel Chamber — This hard-rocking band from Stratford, made up of Keiryn Jacobs on lead vocals, Nelson Loghrin on rhythm guitar and vocals, Jesse Karl Karu on percussion, Dylan Cassels on bass, and Alexander Rowe on lead guitar, describe their live show as “Metal with a twist of lime and smashed in your face.” Check out their Facebook page for footage of Decibel Chamber in concert.

Forever Cadence — From Brampton, this five-piece melodic hardcore act includes “…a unique blend of heavy riffs and poppy sensibility.” Their Facebook page tells of wild live shows “coupled with scream-along gang vocals and catchy, sing-along melodies.”

We Live This Day — WLTD has elements of metal, pop-punk, and alternative, and cites Deaf Havana, Silverstein, and Alexisonfire as influences. Featuring Lucas Smith on vocals and rhythm guitar, Nathan Pope on bass, Alex Boersen on drums and vocals, and Trevor De Decker on lead guitar, the band has been hinting that new recordings will be released this spring.
