Stratford’s ‘Totally Spoked’ U-11 Striker girls hosted Fergus last Thursday in SWRSL play.
With thunder and lightning looming, the game started promptly at 6:30 p.m.
Tatum James opened the scoring midway through the half with an excellent strike inside the penalty area. Five minutes later, some great ball work from Jessica Blowes to shake off the Fergus defence led to a goal by Olivia Griffin who would bury her shot into the back of the net.
Fergus managed to find an answer before the end of the half, making the score 2-1 at the break.
Strikers orchestrated a string of amazing passes on a counter attack, resulting in Payton Dias blasting a shot from the top of the 18-yard box for a 3-1 Stratford lead just four minutes into the second half.
James once again drove another shot past the Fergus keeper with 16 minutes gone in the half.
A crack of thunder and a flash of lightning prompted the game official to pause play. With no sign of clearing and the adequate amount of time played in the match to be considered for standings, the referee ended the contest giving Stratford a 4-1 league victory.
Upcoming: The U-11 Strikers remain undefeated with five wins and two ties, and will host an also undefeated Kitchener squad this Thursday, June 28 at 6:30 p.m. Stratford and Kitchener played to a 1-1 draw in the season opener back on May 10.
