The team of Jeff Kennedy, left, Jimmy Holliday, Dave Shepley and Mark Bell emerged the winners in last Thursday's Memorial Hospital golf tournament at St. Marys G&CC.

Three teams shoot 14-under in Hospital tourney

Three foursomes fired 14-under-par scores of 58 in the 19th annual St. Marys Memorial Hospital golf tournament last Thursday at St. Marys Golf and Country Club.

There was no playoff.

Due to retrogression, the team of Jimmy Holliday, Dave Shepley, Mark Bell and Jeff Kennedy emerged as the trophy winners. They collected 12 birdies, an eagle on No. 8, and five pars during their stellar round.

The Holliday group was eight-under-par after their first seven holes.

“The advantage for us was that Dave and Mark hit it so far (off the tee),” Holliday reported.

“With it being so dry out there, and lots of roll, even on the par 5s we just had short wedges to the greens. It was a real advantage for us to have those long bombers. Even Kenner hits it a ton, too.”

The defending tourney champions—Roger Quinn, Clive Slade, Stephen McCotter and Pat Hinnegan—also finished with a 58. Their round included a nice eagle on No. 8, with Slade making the putt.

The foursome of Patrick Brennan, John Vella, Dan Lavis and Sam Moir finished with a 14-under score as well. Their round included three eagles.

Another good score, an 11-under-par 61, was turned in by the group of Reid Dundas, Tristan Dundas, Steve Jarrett and Rick Scrimgeour.

A total of 104 golfers took part in this year’s tourney.

Proceeds raised will go towards the recruitment and retention of health care professionals for St. Marys.

Note: Next year’s Memorial Hospital tournament, the 20th annual, will be held Thursday July 11, 2013.
