Near lifts Memorials Cubs to dramatic win

Adam Near socked a two-out, two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap off a four-run rally last Monday night at Packham Road complex as Stratford Memorials Cubs battled back to edge St. Marys 8–7.

Both teams play in the Junior Division of the South Perth Men’s Fastball League.

St. Marys scored six runs in the top of the fourth off Memorials starter Scott Siragusa to erase a 2–0 Cubs lead. Stratford got two back in the fifth to trail 7–4 heading into the home half of the seventh.

George Armstrong picked up the win in relief of Siragusa, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five over the final three innings. Siragusa worked four innings, giving up six runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked five.

For the Cubs at the plate, Jason DeVos singled twice and doubled, Siragusa singled and doubled, and Dave Barraclaugh singled twice.
