
Stratford Motor Products Minor Midgets scored four unanswered goals to knock off the London Jr. Knights by a 4-1 score in their quarter-final series.
Jr. Knights opened the scoring in the first period, then Liam Kelly’s goal from Josh Hill and Wyatt Lansdell tied it at 1-1. Warriors added two more goals in the second period, Brady Lauze assisted by Brandan Willis and Wyatt Lansdell scored assisted by Liam Kelly and Nicholas Strangway to take a 3-1 lead into the third.
Evan Metelski scored an empty-netter with 1:25 left in the game to put it away for the Tribe.
Warriors’ Owen West kicked out 34 London shots, while Stratford fired 26 at London’s Paul Town.
The Midgets lost 3-2 in overtime in Waterloo on Saturday night in the opening game of the semi-finals. Despite the superb goaltending of Darren Robinson in kicking out 37 shots, the final one with 2.5 seconds left in overtime gave Waterloo the win.
Brady Lauze scored at 10:44 of the first period, assisted by Evan Metelski. Zac Housworth’s goal came with 1:43 remaining in the second on a pass from Josh Hill, that gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
Waterloo scored a powerplay goal with 1:41 left in the third period to tie it 2-2 and send the game into extra time.
Major Midgets tie series
Stratford Culliton Major Midgets travelled to Brantford on Saturday for the opener of the best-of-five Bristol Single ‘A’ semi–finals, losing 5-3.
The score was 2-2 after one period. Gavyn Connell Helle scored and also drew an assist, and Jake Near scored the other Stratford goal with an assist to Nick Castell.
Brantford scored three goals, including two on powerplays, in the second period to take a 5-2 lead. Warriors’ Sam Campbell scored the lone goal of the third period to make it 5-3. John Yundt assisted.
Nick Sawdon made 31 saves in net for Stratford.
The Culliton Major Midgets bounced back in Game 2 Sunday with a 6-4 win over Brantford to tie the Bristol single ‘A’ semi-final at 1-1.
Stratford had a 2-0 lead after one period and a 3-0 cushion after two.
Jake Near led the way with two goals, while Steven King had a goal and an assist, with single goals going to Wyatt Landsdale, Matt Knight and Sam Campbell. Jack Rankin contributed two assists with single helpers going to Zac Housworth and Nick Castell.
Sawdon played well in net stopping 40 shots.
Novices tie, lose
Stratford Hockey Training Above Minor Novice Tier 3 Warriors fell to the North London Nationals last Tuesday 8-1. Daniel Van Straaten had the lone goal in the loss.
The Warriors came out of this past weekend with a tie and a loss.
On Saturday, they tied Oakridge Aeros 3-3. Jonas Schmidt had two goals and an assist, while Daniel Van Straaten added a goal and an assist. They also fell 8-1 to West London Hawks. Schmidt had the lone Stratford goal.
