It’s definitely a first for the St. Marys Minor Hockey Association.
This coming 2014-15 season, Mark Kittmer will be the third member of his family to serve as a SMMHA president. Brothers Bill (1993-95) and Rob (2007-08) were two previous presidents of the long-standing association.
Skills clinics and power skating are a key priority for Mark Kittmer as the SMMHA embarks on another season. Former president Mark Bodenham (2012-13) initiated the program.
“Mark Bodenham really spearheaded it,” Kittmer told the Journal Argus in a recent interview. “And I’m somebody who wants to see that it’s finished and hopefully implemented right through minor hockey.”
Minor hockey is bringing in Paul Petrie and his Power Skating School (PSE – Power Skating and Edges) to work with the younger age groups — Tyke to Atom, as well as Peewee and Bantam.
“There will be an extra cost (for the power skating),” Kittmer noted.
“As soon as tryouts are done, Paul is going to start implementing this program.”
Mark Kittmer, meanwhile, has been involved in St. Marys minor hockey for 15-16 years. He was a coach for seven years in the association.
He also served on the coaches committee for four years. Last year, he was first-vice president and chair of the coaches committee.
The remainder of the 2014-15 SMMHA executive is as follows: Pete Frehner, first vice-president; Mike Morning, second vice-president; Brenda Walsh, treasurer; Ken Williams, secretary, and Patty Drinkwalter, past president.
Other staff members include: Pete Frehner, OMHA Rep. and Webmaster; Mike Morning, Shamrock Rep. and Fundraising; Steve Jarrett, OWHA Rep.; Sheila Coulthard, WOGHL Rep. and Police Checks; Bernie Sterkenburg, LMLL Rep.; Dan Rudofer, SMMHA Registrar; Janet Edye, Sponsorship; Rob Kittmer, Ice Convener; and Paul Williams, Volunteer Co-ordinator.
