The Elmira Sugar Kings left a pair of points on table this past weekend, after dropping two inter-conference games — both of which were decided in a shootout.
Saturday, Elmira locked horns with the Lambton Shores Predators and lost 6-5.
The Predators tied the game with four seconds remaining in the third period, then won it in a shootout.
Elmira got a pair of goals from Mitch Wright and Jake Weidner both of whom missed shootout chances along with Brady Campbell.
Matt Schieck chipped in with a goal and an assist. Zac Coulter (3), Campbell (2), Adam Dauda (2) and James Milden also had helpers.
Lambton Shore’s goal scorers were Adam Arsenault (2), Dillon Pfeifer, Ferdinando Colella and Cale Duberry.
Elmira’s Hayden Neuman made 26 saves.
Sunday in Elmira, the Sugar Kings traded goals with St. Catharines for three periods before the Falcons won the game 5-4 in a shootout.
Weidner and Wright both scored and had an assist, while Coulter and Campbell, who both missed shootout opportunities, added goals. Clayton Greer had a pair of assists.
Scoring for the Falcons were Luke Karaim, Andy Sturtz, Julian Luciani and Kyle Woodhouse.
Elmira’s Hayden Neuman stopped 32 of 36 shots, while St. Catharine’s Marcus Del Conte turned aside 49 of 53 shots.
The Sugar Kings, which played at Kitchener on Tuesday night, will play three games in three days this weekend.
Friday, Elmira travels to Brampton, then returns home to play Waterloo on Saturday (Nov. 17) and Caledonia on Sunday (Nov. 18).
ICE CHIPS: Two Elmira players have received Midwestern Conference player-of-the-month honours. Brady Campbell, who tallied 18 points in eight games in October, was named best forward of the month, while Clayton Greer was top defenceman… Elmira has won two of four games that have gone to shootouts this season… With a record of 10-6-2, the Sugar Kings are in fourth place in the Midwest.
