Semi-final results last week
St. Michael Warriors Junior girls improved their Huron-Perth League record to 11-1 with a hard-fought 31-18 semi-final playoff victory over South Huron Panthers from Exeter last Wednesday afternoon. Despite a slow start offensively, Tim O’Connor’s Warriors persevered with some tough defence and pulled away in the third quarter on a big three-point bucket by Megan McKellar.
Jenna Rops and Neve Van Pelt led the offensive effort for St. Mikes, but it was determined interior defence by Allie Woodley, Jaclyn Core and Char Louwagie that kept the Panthers at bay.
Claire Rocher, Mel Nolan and Becca Ropp contributed solid defensive minutes as well. Courtney Erb had eight points for the Panthers.
In the other Junior semi-final at Central, the host Rams defeated Clinton St. Anne’s Eagles 31-17 to also gain a berth in the H-P final. Guard Avery Casey led Central with 12 points, while Ashley Wheeler added seven. Sarah Devereaux had seven points for St. Anne’s.
