The Walkerton Hawks are undefeated so far in the final round of Western Junior C playoffs, winning both games last weekend.
Drew Davidson led the way on Friday during the series opener with two goals and an assist in the 6-2 decision.
Kincardine drew first blood, with the opening period’s only goal. They followed up with another goal five minutes into the second.
Walkerton answered both goals later in the period. Jordan Turcotte notched the first, assisted by Davidson and Lauclin Elder. Adam Alexander tied the game with a short-handed unassisted goal at the 15-minute mark.
The third period saw four more Walkerton goals – the first by Davidson off of Elder; the next came from Haden Campbell assisted by Brandon Lamothe. Davidson’s second came at 13:08, helped by Connor Patton. The sixth and final goal came just seconds before the buzzer from Austin Russell, Wade Pfeffer and Nathan Kramer with the assists.
Jeff Flagler had 30 saves in the win, while Gatlin Burt made 32 in the loss.
Saturday’s match was much closer, with the Hawks needing an extra period on the road to settle the score.
Period 1 saw a goal for each team, with Kincardine scoring first, Alexander answering, assisted by Turcotte.
Campbell scored early in the second with help from Davidson and Alexander. The Bulldogs bit twice more, but Lamothe capitalized on the powerplay late in the period to tie the game at threes, assisted by Alexander and Campbell, where the score would remain for the rest of regulation.
Jay Thomson scored the overtime goal, unassisted, two minutes into the extra period.
Flagler picked up the win with 23 saves, while Burt made 43 saves in the loss.
The series resumes on Saturday, when Walkerton hosts Kincardine for an 8:30 p.m. game.
Game 4 is on Sunday in Kincardine with a 4 p.m. start.
