Elmira played its first road game of the 2010-11 season at Stratford, Friday, and came away with a 4-3 overtime victory. Brad Kraus scored the game winner 1:30 into extra time, assisted by Wade Pfeffer. It was Kraus's second goal of the game. He opened the scoring in the first period, and the goal, along a last-minute tally by Shane Smith, gave Elmira a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Stratford stormed back with three unanswered goals in the second period to go up 3-2, before Elmira's Devon Wagner tied the game, assisted by Zach Salomon, early in the third.Jarred Parent, Spencer MacCormack and Jonathan Rizzo added assists for Elmira, while goaltender Nick Horrigan made 51 saves.Stratford goal scorers were Chet Binning, Mitch McCrank and Tyler Masson.Sunday in Elmira, first-place Guelph handed the Sugar Kings their first loss of the year. The Hurricanes snapped a scoreless draw early in the second period and banged in five-straight goals en route to a 5-2 win.Elmira's Brady Campbell and Josh MacDonald broke Talon D'Orazio's shutout bid with back-to-back goals with 2:27 left to play.Assists went to Lukas Baleshta (2), Tyler Snyder and MacDonald, while goaltender Matthew Smith stopped 24 of 29 shots.Guelph goal scorers were Matt Hill, Mark Bell, Brandon Stewart, Jake Weidner and Erik Belanger.Elmira (2-1) plays at Waterloo, Saturday, then hosts Leamington at the Woolwich Memorial Centre at 7 p.m., Sunday.
