Dennis Wideman traded to Calgary

National Hockey League defenceman Dennis Wideman, who played in the all-star game for the Washington Capitals this past season, has a new team.

The Elmira native’s rights were acquired by the Calgary Flames who have signed him to a five-year, $26.25 million contract.

As part of the deal, Calgary sent defenceman Jordan Henry and a fifth-round draft pick in 2013 to Washington in return for Wideman, who is playing for his fifth team since breaking into the NHL in 2005.
