Big haul for Stonetown Karate Club members

STRATFORD – Stonetown Karate Club members collected two firsts, one second, and five thirds at the recent 26th annual K.I.C.K. Nationals martial arts championships here at St. Michael Secondary School.

Altogether, the Stonetown contingent brought home 17 trophies.
Earning first-place trophies in sparring were Kurtis Mills (Men’s Intermediate) and Debra Thomson (35-and-over Advanced women).

Hope Johns finished second in 11-12 Advanced boys-girls sparring.

Four of the five third-place finishes also came in sparring. Winning those trophies were Eric Thomson in Heavyweight Black Belt, David Jorna in 15-17 Black Belt, Terry Thomson in Over-42 Black Belt, and Jenessa Lorentz in 11-12 boys-girls Advanced.

Olivia McClelland was third in 7-8 Intermediate boy-girls Kata (forms).

Finishing fourth were Casey Downing in 13-14 Advanced girls sparring, Jaron Lorentz in 13-14 boys Advanced sparring, Jakob Krausz in 7-8 boys-girls Intermediate sparring, and Jalyne Lorentz in 6-and-under all belts.

Picking up fifth-place finishes were: Jalyne Lorentz in 6-and-under Kata, Jelena Lorentz in 9-10 boys-girls Intermediate Kata, Jenessa Lorentz in 11-12 boys-girls Advanced Kata, Jaron Lorentz in 13-14 boys Advanced Kata, and Jakob Krausz in 7-8 boys-girls Intermediate Kata.
