Two sisters, Erin and Nicole See LDSS, page 22 Katerberg round out the Listowel Lightning team qualifying for the next meet at the OFSAA West Regional Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Cambridge. Fourth Ben Binning tourney coming up
SPECIAL TO THE BANNER LISTOWEL – The Ben Binning Memorial Golf Tournament (BBMT) started three years ago as a fundraiser hosted by Sinclair Construction to raise money for Ben Binning, who was battling leukemia, his fiancée Lindsay and son Riley. Binning was a tradesman at Sinclair Construction, and a friend of the Sinclairs. In August 2010, just days before the golf tournament, he lost his battle. Not knowing what to do and with a sold-out event, organizers proceeded with the tournament, which turned out to be both difficult and positive. Over the next three years, the tournament continued and that is how the BBMT became what it is today – a memorial golf tournament honouring an amazing young man. Sinclair Construction no longer hosts it, but they are still a big part of it along with Binning’s family and friends.

An ill wind that blows no good "Sorry, that figure should be 1,000 anti-wind websites. I hit an extra zero by mistake, instead of the comma."

An ill wind that blows no good "Excellent article, except for one glaring error. "people on the other side of the Atlantic appear to like them" That is completely erroneous and is something the wind industry loves to mislead us with. There are over 10000 anti-wind websites"

Wingham woman to swim across Lake Huron this summer
Lesley (Burton) Zehr spent much of Wednesday and Thursday, May 22 and 23, at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex pool, swimming laps. She’ll be in Wingham until the end of the month, when she returns to Waterloo where she usually trains. She remarked on the calm, turquoise water at the Wingham pool, something she won’t be seeing much of when she attempts her 75-kilometre solo Lake Huron crossing, from Harbour Beach, Michigan, to Goderich, July 26-29.
Chip and a Putt - Weather confuses golfers
The weather had the members of the Wingham Golf and Curling Club confused this past week. A few of the members were not sure if they should be carrying their golf clubs over their shoulders, or their curling brooms. Despite the cold wet days some of the diehards still managed to get a few rounds in and the course conditions are improving daily. On Tuesday, May 21, nine brave ladies bundled up for ladies night. Shirley O’Malley was winner of the longest putt gift certificate. The Wednesday morning senior men played in the best conditions of the week. The group had 18 golfers hit the links with Bill Johnston coming out on top with Wayne Gordon second and Bob Foxton third. Harry George took home the prize for longest putt. Don Bone birdied the ninth hole to tie his closest rival Ed Daer for low gross, both shooting 40.
Palmerston ball hockey league gets underway

There are seven teams competing in this year’s league. With the Clash folding, the defending champions Lords of Mordor are hoping for a new team to give them a run for their money in this year’s finals as they and the Clash needed a tiebreaker game last year in the championship to decide its victor. Other games on May 7 included the Violators beating the Average Joes 6-3 and the Canadian Beavers taking their game 3-1 over the Gators.
