Quilt photo inspires interest

Dear Editor:

I am writing about a photo that appearing in the Journal Argus Weekender last summer (2012) under the title “Fundraising draw tickets now on sale.” Under the photo, the information explained: “Visitors to the Library on Saturday were greeted on the lawn by Friendship Centre volunteer Aline Hall, who was selling tickets for fundraisers for Home Support Services and the Friendship Centre: 50/50 draw tickets, with the winner to be announced Aug. 25 during the second annual Bike and Car Show; and tickets for the hand-crafted quilt, shown above, to be drawn Nov. 3 at the Friendship Centre’s annual Christmas Bazaar.”

I am especially interested in the handcrafted quilt. I live in Embro but grew up near Medina and attended high school up on the hill in St. Marys. I really enjoy getting the Journal Argus Weekender every Thursday.

I have a quilt with the same main central design. It was a “cheater” quilt with an all-over printed design and it quilted up beautifully and I have received many good comments on it. As soon as I saw this photo, I was taken with the quilt and how it was set up with the same central design and the flowered strips that divided them.

My cousin in Michigan was over at the end of October and she loved the quilt, too. We were wondering if you could lead us to someone at the Friendship Centre who could tell us if there is a pattern that could be purchased for the quilt, or if the blocks were printed before and then hand-quilted.

Any information that we could receive would be really appreciated. My cousin is an avid quilter so I’m sure that she could design her own, but she thought that one in the photo was beautiful, too.
Thank you very much for the paper and also any information about this striking quilt would be great.
Sincerely,

Norma Taylor,
Embro
