Holiday spirit alive and well

Another Christmas season has come and gone, and with it the completion of another successful Kiwanis/CJCS Christmas Basket project, marking our club’s 33rd year of involvement in this important community service in partnership with CJCS Radio.

As in past years, we have once again been shown the true generosity of so many Stratford and area citizens and organizations that provide us with the necessary funds to carry our our plans.

As a result of this generosity, members of the Kiwanis Club, their spouses and other volunteers were able to provide 655 well-filled food hampers, which were packed and delivered on Dec. 21 to those who otherwise might otherwise not have been able to enjoy a real Christmas dinner.

A very special thank you goes to the many people who assisted us with this year’s project. Our enthusiastic partners at CJCS planned and assisted us with many fundraising events and ongoing publicity. As an extra bonus, courtesy of the Perth County Egg Producers, each basket contained a carton of fresh eggs.

On delivery day, we had many volunteers, especially a number of young people who helped with the loading and delivery. As well, we had a steady stream of drivers who kept things moving. As in past years, we have come to rely on Gord Steed, who assisted us once again with his time and the use of one of his trucks, and upon Gerry Reynolds of Remex Express.

In conclusion, we in the Kiwanis Club of Stratford wish to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas Basket project financially and in other ways. You have clearly demonstrated once again that the Christmas spirit is alive and well in Stratford and area.
