Woolwich budget plans in the works

BY CHUCK KUEPFER, Staff Reporter

Woolwich Township is still months away from approving next year’s budget. However, the process has already begun and residents can have their say during pre-budget public input meetings over the next two months.

While dates were still being finalized last week, the meetings are planned for Elmira and Breslau. Unlike in previous terms of council, the township has opted to allow residents to give their input prior to the release of a pre-budget report.

“I think it’s a great idea going to the public before you make any recommendations,” said councillor Bonnie Bryant.

“I think it’s important that council takes some time with (community stakeholders) to figure out what their budget pressures are,” said Mayor Todd Cowan.

Budget packages are scheduled to be in the hands of councillors by Dec. 21. Budget deliberations will take place throughout January, with final budget approval slated for Feb. 19.
