A serious collision between a motorcycle and van in Fergus shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon has left one person in Hamilton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 2011 Husqavarna bike was travelling eastbound on Garafraxa St. and struck a northbound 2000 Ford Windstar broadside when it entered the intersection at Cameron Street.

The 16-year-old driver of the motorcycle, from Centre Wellington, and 39-year-old female driver of the Windstar, from Fergus, were both taken to Groves Memorial Hospital; the 16-year-old was subsequently airlifted to Hamilton.

Garafraxa Street was closed to traffic from St. David Street to the impacted intersection for several hours while OPP Collision Recontructionists and County of Wellington OPP Technical Collision Investigators worked on the scene.
