GODERICH — South Huron Mayor George Robertson is the new warden of Huron County.

Robertson was elected warden by his fellow county councillors in a vote Wednesday afternoon in the county council chambers at the Goderich Court House. He defeated Huron East Mayor Bernie MacLellan, who had been seeking a second consecutive term as warden.

Upon his victory, Robertson read the declaration of office and received the chain of office, the key of office, the gavel, crest and warden’s pin from MacLellan.

Taking the warden’s chair, Robertson said it was “a great day,” and noted, “The last time I was this dressed up, I got married.”

Robertson promised to have county council work as a team and said he would never hesitate to ask for help.

Robertson said he has been preparing for the role of warden for the past six years and noted he had the support of South Huron council and staff and his family.
