LISTOWEL – The public is invited to attend an information centre on Thursday night for details on a planned extension of Highway 23.
North Perth CAO Kriss Snell said the Nov. 15 open house at the municipal office has two sessions running from 2-4 p.m. and again at 5-7 p.m., allowing public input on the traffic study and preliminary designs for the extension of Mitchell Road North and Binning Street West.
“Before we can do any improvements on Highway 23 and extend Binning Street West, we do have to go through the environmental assessment process,” Snell said.
Snell said the study not only addresses concerns of traffic, but also the need to extend the streets for the future development of a new elementary school in Listowel and a proposed recreation complex.
“There’s been a lot of concerns with traffic on Highway 23 for some time, as well as the need to extend Binning Street and Mitchell Road to allow for development of that property,” Snell said.
The environmental assessment is expected to be wrapped up by early 2013, with improvements to occur later that year.
