Local MP announces federal funding for Clifford sports fields improvements

SPECIAL TO THE MINTO EXPRESS

CLIFFORD – Across the country, community centres, cultural centres, ice rinks, swimming pools, and other community projects will soon be improved, thanks to support from the Government of Canada’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

As part of the government’s Economic Action Plan 2012, Perth Wellington MP Gary Schellenberger announced federal funding for a Minto project. Reconstruction of the Clifford soccer and ball fields will be assisted by a federal grant of $54,500 to the Town of Minto.

“After a comprehensive planning process last winter, the public strongly endorsed the improvements to the Clifford sports fields,” said Minto Mayor George Bridge. “Federal funds supporting the investment by the town and the Rotary Club will make the facility better for all Minto residents, and help grow the community of Clifford.”

“Our government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for Canadians through investments in our communities,” added Schellenberger. “By improving facilities such as these, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for residents of all ages.”

The national Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund provides $150 million over two years for repairs and improvements to existing public community infrastructure. The fund is being delivered by regional development agencies across Canada. The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) is delivering the fund in Ontario with an allocation of up to $49.6 million over two years.
