The failure of a floor beam that supports a portion of the bridge deck of the covered bridge in West Montrose has forced Waterloo Region to close the bridge to vehicle and buggy traffic as a safety precaution.
The damage is “likely due to overloading by heavy vehicles, despite weight restrictive signage,” stated a press release from the region.
It may take “up to a couple weeks” before the bridge is repaired.
Traffic restrictions will remain in place while the repairs are made, but the bridge will remain open to pedestrians.
