The Legion branch in Howick did veterans of the war in Afghanistan proud, with the kind of welcome home celebration that demonstrates what’s best about a close-knit community – supper at the Gorrie hall, followed by a special ceremony and social time.
Howick Legion Br. 307 members were careful to make sure no one was left out, including veterans from neighbouring communities.
Those honoured were Cpl. David Miller (Whitechurch), Sgt. Scott Stevens (Howick), Sgt. Denis Dowler (Lakelet), M/Cpl. Dustin McCracken (Fordwich), M/Cpl. Mark Bailey (Wingham), Cpl. Kurt Elliott (Blyth and Howick), Cpl. Adam Moran (Belmore area), Cpl. Fraser Inglis (Howick), Cpl. Brendon Dinning (Wingham), Cpl. Jim Black (Wingham), Cpl. Brigid Ventour (Wingham), Cpl. Trevor Ventour, Pte. Tyler Kirbyson (Ottawa), and Pte. Patrick Bricker (Gorrie). In all, 14 were honoured, most of whom are serving in other parts of the country at present. However, three attended the ceremony.
Legion padre, Rev. Jeff Hawkins welcomed the three – Bricker, Kirbyson and Inglis…..please read more in this weeks Wingham Advance Times
