Jim Bell
James Arthur Bell, 64, of Stratford died Sunday at his residence. He had worked as clerk/treasurer for the County of Perth. He owned and operated the Shoe Box in Stratford for many years. He is survived by his wife Diane, and children Rick, Mike, Tony, Jenny, and Janet (Jason Mills). He was predeceased by his parents Helen and Steward Bell. A family funeral was planned.
Hilde Brodrecht
Hilde Brodrecht,90, died Tuesday at Hillside Manor. In 1991 she was predeceased by her husband Oliver Wilfred Brodrecht. She is survived by sisters-in-law Betty Schramm, New Hamburg, Eva Wagner (Don), Stratford and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stratford. A funeral service was held this morning at the W.G. Young Funeral Home. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
Elizabeth Brown
Elizabeth Jean Brown (ne Garbutt), 82, died at Spruce Lodge, Stratford, on April 27. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Brown in 1988. She is survived by a nephew Lewis Brennan (Sandra) and nieces Betty Powers and Judy Steele, also many grand nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
William (Bill) Golder Sr.
William Boyle Golder, 62, of 113 Falstaff St., died suddenly on April 27 at St. Marys Hospital in Kitchener. He was born in London, a son of the late Stephen and Isabel (Cowan) Golder. He was an employee of Hendrickson Spring for over 25 years. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stratford, and had been a Beaver and Cub leader with the 17th Zion Cubs and Beavers. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his fishing trips with his grandson Tristan. He is survived by his wife Margaret Elizabeth (Malcho) Golder, whom he married at Zion Lutheran Church in 1971, and by his children Evie Golder and Billy Golder, both of Stratford. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Marnie-Marie Otto in 2004. A funeral service was held Wednesday at the Heinbuck Funeral Home. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
Helen Ische
Helen Annie Ische, 86, a resident of Spruce Lodge, Stratford, died Sunday at her residence. A memorial service was held Monday in the Griffith Auditorium at Woodland Towers. with Greg White, pastor of St. John's United Church, officiating. Donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Spruce Lodge Auxiliary through the Heinbuck Funeral Home.
Steve Morris
Steven Ray Morris, 68, of Campbell Court, Stratford, died April 26 at Stratford General Hospital with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Verna Elg and their children Don (Kelly) of Stratford, Dorothy (Rick) of Mitchell and Darlene (Tom) of London. He is also survived by his mother Dorothy Morris. He was predeceased by his father Ray in 1969. A memorial service was held at Parkview United Church. Arrangements by the W.G. Young Funeral Home.
Gerald (Jerry) Nicholson
Gerald (Jerry) Nicholson, 74, of Water Street, Stratford, died Monday at Stratford General Hospital. He was born in Logan Township, a son of the late Robert Nicholson and the former Catherine Regan. Following his marriage to Rita Walsh the couple moved to Kitchener where he was employed at Seegmiller Construction and then later they moved to Woodstock and he worked at Canada Cement. He and his brother Donald eventually purchased the Robert Nicholson Construction Company and operated it until their retirement in 1990. He had obtained his pilot's wings and was a member of the Perth County Flying Club. He built and flew his own Ultra Lite Plane. He was a promoter of the Segway human transporter, loved his scooters, travelling, woodworking and working on and collecting antique radios. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Justice J. M. King Assembly 1866, 4th Degree. He is survived by his wife Margaret Mary Murray, and his children Keith Nicholson and his wife Linda, Ken Nicholson and his wife Rhona, Doug Nicholson and his wife Bev, Kathleen Dickenson and her husband John, and David Nicholson and his wife Theresa. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife the former Rita Walsh in 1987 and a son Alan Joseph in infancy. Visitation was at the W.G. Young Funeral Home. A funeral mass was celebrated Thursday at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Stratford. Interment at Avondale Cemetery.
Edwin Schefter
Edwin Michael Schefter, 90, died at Hillside Manor, RR 5, Stratford on Saturday. Born in Mildmay, he was a son of the late Charles Schefter and the former Mary Strauss. He moved to Stratford in 1971 and was the owner of Schefter Sand and Gravel. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. In 1993 he was predeceased by his wife Patricia (McQuinn) Schefter whom he married in 1953. He is survived by his children Lynn (Bill) Whittemore, Sebringville, Anne (Ron) McKellar, Waterloo, Kathy Schefter-Cano (Paul), Grimsby, Mary (Tim) Adair, Stratford, Michael Schefter, Stratford and Steve Schefter (Diane Cornett), Oro Station, Ontario. Visitation was at the W.G. Young Funeral Home and a funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
Doris Smith
Doris Elaine Smith, 80, of Seaforth Manor and formerly of Stratford died Sunday. She was born in Stratford, a daughter of the late Wilbur John and Beatrice (Ashton) Sylvester. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Watson Smith. She is survived by her son Howard Smith and his wife Liz of Stratford. A graveside service will be held at Avondale Cemetery on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by the Heinbuck Funeral Home.
