With co-operation by members of the civil service and a garbage collector, a skunk’s head was freed from a plastic container in Elmira, Friday.
At around 7:30 a.m., officer Rabidoux of the Waterloo Regional Police was on patrol when he was flagged down by a concerned citizen on Memorial Avenue near Park Street.
The officer was called to assist in freeing a skunk, who had been running in circles for several hours with a plastic container stuck on its head.
With the help of a Canada Post employee, who provided a garbage bag and scissors, the officer and employee from Plein Disposal were able to trap the skunk in the bag in order to remove the plastic container.
Police indicate the skunk sprayed inside the bag, which was thrown into the back of a nearby garbage truck, before scurrying off.
