A full fire department funeral was held Tuesday for Stratford lieutenant John Mavity, who died Jan. 30 after a long battle with cancer.
Residents lined the streets to pay tribute as a procession with fire, police and EMS personnel made its way from Market Square at 10 a.m. to the Allman Arena.
Mavity, who in addition to being a well-known member of the Stratford Fire Department was a respected hockey player and, later, an active supporter of the Stratford Cullitons, died from what’s considered an occupational disease.
