A team of police and fire officials continues to investigate a number of unsolved, suspicious fires at abandoned structures.
This multi-jurisdictional investigation includes criminal investigators from Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Region OPP Support Unit, Guelph Police Service, Halton Police Service along with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall Emergency Management (OFMEM) and surrounding Fire Departments.
The investigation is based on community safety and finding the person(s) responsible for setting these fires. To date there are a total of 14 fires that are being treated as suspicious and will be investigated as such until proven otherwise.
The fires have been in Guelph-Eramosa, Puslinch, Centre-Wellington, Milton and the City of Guelph. None have been in the Town of Erin.
The police are urging the public to report any suspicious vehicles or people in their community.
Police are urging owners of abandoned or vacant buildings to secure unlocked structures, consider motion sensing cameras, request neighbours to watch the property and make regular visits to view the property.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents should contact Detective Constable Heidi Pautsch or Detective Constable Kevin Detweiler at Wellington County OPP, 1-888-310-1122.
