For the second year in a row, Blaine Schmidt and the team at Boothill Auto Resurrection in Erin have provided some inspiration for Walmart’s annual Dream Car fundraising calendar. Part of the proceeds from the calendar go to support the Children’s Miracle Network.
Last year the calendar featured Boothill’s 1957 Chevy. This year the cover of the calendar features Blaine’s 1961 Corvette Stingray. The Corvette is also the featured car for July in the popular calendar, which has become the #1 selling car calendar in Canada.
Photographer Nick Milner found Boothill during a random search on the internet last year while searching for cars for the calendar. Milner contacted Blaine again this year to see what Boothill had in its showroom.
Blaine was happy to oblige and made it clear that “it’s all about the importance of the Children’s Miracle Network”.
Each year the team at Boothill puts on one of the highlights of the summer with their Show and Shine and BBQ in support of Community Living and ARC Industries.
This year the event will be held in June and once again will feature some of most incredible cars in the area, along with the BBQ and live bands.
The July page of the Walmart calendar says the 1961 Stingray featured the introduction of four round taillights and a new boat-tail design. It also had chrome bumpers and a fine-mesh front grill. The 1961 model was the last to have contrasting paint colours in cove areas, and the last two-tone Corvette of any type until 1978.
The price in 1961 was $3,934 and 10,939 cars were made.
