Mounsey Memorial Fund recognizes volunteers

Wingham Advance Times

EXETER — The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund (DMMF) recognized three Good Samaritans at its Valentine’s Day Gala Feb. 9 at Exeter’s South Huron Rec Centre.

The fund, - a non-profit organization named after late Huron County OPP Const. Dave Mounsey, who was killed in 2006 after being involved in a collision while responding to a call, - was created to raise money for defibrillators and honour the lives of police, fire, military and ambulance members killed in the line of duty.

Executive director and founder, Patrick Armstrong, said that since 2009, the DMMF has raised enough money for 26 defibrillators, with 12 more this year.

The recent Valentine’s Day Gala in Exeter was the fourth annual for the DMMF and the first in Exeter.

Another first for the DMMF was the presentation of three Order of the Good Samaritan awards handed out recognizing individuals who, according to the DMMF website, “serve their community by volunteering.”

Municipality of South Huron manager of community services Jo-Anne Fields received the Sgt. Margaret Eve Award for, “Dedication to community which goes above and beyond the common citizen. A leader in example and commitment to the betterment of their community and society and the greater good; without compensation or regard for credit.”

Taking home the Prov. Const. Vu Pham Award was F. E. Madill student Shaelin Green, “For dedication to the youth of the community and ensuring their involvement and voices’ are heard.”

Through his work with the Goderich Legion, Norman Leddy received the Cpl. Matthew Dinning Award, “For dedication to the lives and betterment of veterans and all service members within their community.”

The Valentine’s Day Gala in Exeter included a silent fundraising auction and photos of fallen officers, firefighters, military and paramedic members.

Entertainment was provided by 14 dancers from the Clinton-based Dance Techniques.
