Elementary school teachers to stage protest Friday

Elmira Independent

Teachers with the Waterloo Region District School Board will not be in class at elementary schools on Friday, Jan. 11.

They will join Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario educators from across the province in a one-day labour strike to protest Bill 115 and the government's decision to impose new collective agreements.

Parents have been advised that schools will be closed for the "Day of Protest," and parents and guardians "will need to arrange for alternate care for their children," as stated in an email.

Locally, those affected include all WRDSB students from junior kindergarten to Gr. 8, as well as students enrolled in board-operated extended day programs.

The WRDSB has further advised that no transportation for students will be provided on Friday.
