South Huron Bantam Reps win Regional Silver Stick

Exeter Times-Advocate

KINCARDINE – The South Huron Bantam Rep team came home from Kincardine as the Bantam ‘B’ Regional Silver Stick winners Dec. 30.

The team defeated the hometown Kincardine squad 3-2 in the final to move onto the International Silver Stick tournament Jan. 25-27 in Forest.

The Sabres opened the regional tournament by soundly defeating Twin Centre by a score of 5-0. Owen Chandler tallied twice and Justin McCarter, Brad Regier and Jacob Hrudka added singles in the win.

In the second game the team kept their momentum in a 6-1 win over Simcoe.

McCarter paced the Sabres’ scoring attack, notching a hat trick, while David Norris added two goals and Nick Overholt also found the back of the net.

The coaching staff said the third game proved to be a little more difficult for the team to get going, tying Mitchell 1-1.

The Sabres’ lone goal was scored by Chandler, with an assist going to Nate McDonald.

The tie put the team into the semifinal in second place, setting them up for a game against third-place BCH.

In what the coaching staff said was a tightly contested game, the Sabres came away with a 4-3 win. Ray Delbridge, Overholt, McDonald and Norris found the back of the net in the win.

In the final Regier got the Sabres on the board in the first period, but Kincardine came back with two goals in the second. However, South Huron kept battling, and it paid off as Norris fired a shot past the Kincardine goalie with 3:48 to play.

Twenty seconds later McCarter threw the puck in front of the net and Delbridge was there to bury it for the tournament winner.

The coaching staff said the win was a huge team effort, noting goaltender Mitch Riddell was in net for all five games, allowing only seven goals over that span.
