Four Wellington North Firefighters were recognized with long service awards during Monday evening’s regular meeting of council.

Mayor Ray Tout presented Deputy Chief Bill Hieber, Captain Ed White and Firefighters Steve Truax and Don Koehler with 20-year pins.

All four are volunteers with the Mount Forest Station. Mr. Hieber joined in 1990, Mr. Truax in 1991 and Mr. Koehler and Mr. White in 1992.

“We’re very proud of you,” Mayor Tout told the men, “for your exemplary, distinguished service.”

Jim Morrison, fire chief Arthur Station, was also at the council meeting and was presented with his Certified Municipal Manager III Fire Service certification by the mayor.

The Certified Municipal Accreditation Program “recognizes education and employment experience, with four levels of the CMM designation, while providing a personal development analysis with a guiding framework, to encourage broadening a member’s career plans.”

The Wellington North Fire Service will be hiring a fulltime chief to oversee both stations and it was announced that 33 applications for the job have been received.

An interview committee consisting of Fire Committee Chair Councillor Mark Goetz, Fire Committee Member Councillor Dan Yake, CAO Lori Heinbuck and two external fire officials has been set and the interview process will begin in January.

Clerk/CAO Lori Heinbuch was recognized for successfully completing three core programs at Schulich, School of Business, York University in public sector advancement, essential skills of municipal managers and achieving operational excellence. She was awarded a Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership.
