Minto Express

RIPLEY – Dan Richardson made sure the Mapleton-Minto 81’s at least got a point in the standings on Friday night.

Richardson’s ninth goal of the Senior AA season drew the 81’s (4-8-0-2) even with the Ripley Wolves with 8:02 to go in the third period. Brady Claussen and Curtis Campbell assisted the power-play goal.

The Wolves (8-4) took the extra point that was up for grabs by winning the shootout on a Jeremy McQuillin goal, and took the game 3-2. Reid Shantz had the other Mapleton-Minto goal, while Blair Pollack and Ryan Armstrong scored for Ripley in regulation.

The Wolves took 46 shots and finished 0-for-7 on the power play. The 81’s were 1-for-5 and mustered 41 shots in total. Kurt Edwards earned the win in goal; Kyle Levay took the loss.

On Saturday in Drayton, the 81’s lost 6-1 to the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks. They play just once this weekend, in Lucknow on Friday against the Lancers at 8:30 p.m.

Elsewhere last weekend, the Thedford Dirty Dogs defeated the Goderich Pirates 7-5, the Komoka Classics downed the Tillsonburg Thunder 7-2, the Clinton Radars shut out the Monkton Wildcats 2-0, the Shelburne Muskies squeaked past the Elora Rocks 6-5 in overtime, the Petrolia Squires smacked the Milverton Four Wheel Drives 10-3, the Wildcats defeated the Tavistock Royals 4-2, the Classics won 7-1 over the Pirates, the Rocks slipped past the Shallow Lake Crushers 8-7 in overtime, and the Winterhawks downed the Durham Thundercats 6-3.
