Students at St. John Catholic School are learning about respect and tolerance. They also work pink one day recently to show they are against bullying.

School Child and Youth Worker Christy Cunningham spoke to the students on Nov. 19. She spent about half an hour in each class focusing on a topic chosen by the class teacher.

In one class, for example, she spoke about rumours. She had each of the students list two statements one false and one true and then asked the others to vote on which of the statements was the true one. The exercise, she said, was to have the students learn the difference between truth and gossip.

Other classes learned lessons about respect, excluding others, treating each other nicely, the difference between tattletales and telling, and Internet safety.

On Nov. 22 the students and staff at St. John Catholic School were encouraged to wear pink. Everyone lined up in the shape of peace symbol, in the gym, and a photograph was taken.
