Although it lacked a little of the national drama and impact of Paul Henderson's miracle in 1972, or Sidney Crosby's golden goal at the Olympics, last week's win was still a Summit Series triumph for the Mount Forest Atom Local League Rams. The hockey season is rapidly drawing to a close for the Atom Rams, and they spent last week locking horns with their Hwy 6 rivals, the Arthur Vipers. Lacing up for a quick best-of-five game challenge series, Mount Forest got the jump on their neighbours in game one, posted a second-straight shutout for game two, and then sealed the deal with a game three victory at home on Wednesday night. The Rams rolled up a one-sided 10-0 shutout to kick start the series, led by a hat trick from Jordon Allen. In all, seven Mount Forest scorers inked their name on the scoresheet. Chris Kelly and Garrison Lewis stepped up with some excellent play in game two, and provided the scoring in a 2-0 shutout.Mount Forest Head Coach Jim Donald said the Atom Locals put together a solid year, spreading more than 30 wins throughout their 50 games played. The Rams won a tournament in Brussels earlier in the season, and were runners-up at an event in Tiverton. The team looks to wrap up their season with a berth in the big upcoming RIM?Park tournament. For game three of the summit last week, Mount Forest eased out to a clean 2-0 lead, thanks to a goal in the first period, and one more in the second, from Ryan Pacheco. Corbin Peter stepped up for the assist on the first goal, and Austin Malott was there for the helper on goal number two.Not done by any means, Arthur rallied to score two goals of their own that tied the game and set the stage for an exciting third period. Dalton Harrison scored what would emerge as the game winning goal, as he started a textbook rink-long rush and scored shorthanded with a wrist shot to the glove side. Corbin Peter then jammed in a fourth goal on the doorstep to seal the 4-2 final. The teams closed out the game by lining up at centre ice and facing the fans, and giving them a rousing salute for their support all season long. Players each received a summit series T-shirt to mark the occasion.
