Collision claims life of local teen

A local teen was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Friday, Dec. 14 on Arthur St. North and Tilman Road.

Beverly Bearinger, 17, died in hospital after the vehicle she was driving collided with a northbound tractor trailer, around 7:15 p.m.

Bearinger's 15-year-old sister, Laurie, survived the collision with minor injuries.

The accident occurred when Bearinger's car, a 2002 Nissan sedan, pulled out from Tilman Road onto Arthur Street. It was struck by the tractor trailer, driven by a 35-year-old Cambridge man.

Police can confirm that speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

School officials from Elmira District Secondary School, where Bearinger was a student, have been in touch with police and are preparing grief counselling for staff and students.

The investigation is continuing by Waterloo Regional Police Traffic Services Branch. Any witnesses to this collision are asked to contact the Traffic Services Branch at 519-653-7700 extension 8856.
