Buddy Bench

Many of the beams on the Rick Hopkins Bridge were severely corroded. These beams were what the side rails of the bridge were connected to. Matt Aston, director of public works for Wellington North, said that if the bridge suffered a side impact from an event like a car accident it would have been unable to contain the vehicles on the bridge.


The Lakeshore Boys provided live music for those in attendance. The band provided their time and services free of charge as they wanted to help the gala reach its fundraising goal.


Firefighters from five local stations - Mount Forest, Arthur, West Grey, Dundalk and Harriston - were able to put out a fire early Sunday morning on Southgate Road 4 before it spread to the surrounding buildings. No injuries were reported from the fire, which was ruled accidental by officials. Damage is estimated to be $400,000.
