Makin' waves

An SUV makes some waves as it drove through “Lake No Frills” on Saturday afternoon around 2 p.m. According to Environment Canada, a total of 63.6 millimetres of rain fell on Saturday in Mount Forest, with 60.5 millimetres of that hitting the ground between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Open soon

Surface work is nearly completed on the Rick Hopkins Bridge on Highway 6 south of Mount Forest. It is expected the bridge will open to traffic on Aug. 26.

Howick Township’s Caleb Petersen, 15, claimed the U16 national title at the Canadian Youth Chess Championship in Windsor on July 5-8, and will now go for the world U16 title at the World Chess Federation youth championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia on Sept. 20-Oct. 4.
