For the Enterprise News

The November meeting for the Women of Grace Anglican Church, Arthur was held on Nov. 5 in the church hall. The meeting began with “Grace” given by the Rev. Gordon Walls, followed by “Happy Birthday” sung to Jean Rooney. Dessert was served by hostesses Miriam Green and Judy Truax, and included a specially decorated birthday serving for Jean.

President Pat Salter welcomed members and presented a reflection on the Lord’s Prayer. The devotional portion of the meeting began with prayer offered by Miriam, and then “A Prayer for the Discouraged”. Psalm 46 was recited in unison, followed by the hymn “Abide with Me”. In recognition of Remembrance Day, Judy provided information about the importance of remembering the past, and the history of the poppy, as well as the making of the poppy that we proudly wear.

Miriam read “A Soldier’s Prayer”, and a seasonal poem for November.  Devotions concluded with the Lord’s Prayer.

During the business meeting plans were made for a musical concert presented by Father Mark Curtis on Dec.1 at 7p.m. at Grace Church. There will be a free-will offering, with light refreshments being served afterwards. The December meeting for the Women of Grace will begin at 10:30 in the church hall with packing goodies for shut-in members of the parish, followed by lunch out and then a visit to Caressant Care. The Christmas Bazaar and Luncheon will take place Nov.28; telephone lists were provided, and other details were discussed.  Coffee Hour will be Nov.15 at the Pentecostal Church. Members were reminded of breakfast with the rector on Nov.18. A fundraising dinner for The Door will be held on Nov.16 at St. Johns Parish Centre. The meeting ended with Pat Salter reading (from “War stories of Women”) a story telling of the involvement of Vera Brown of Fergus in the war effort.

A time of fellowship followed as members were involved in preparing plastic milk bags to be used in making sleeping mats.
