Listowel Obituaries – October 24, 2012

David Vannatto

David Nelson Vannatto, a resident of Wallaceburg, passed away peacefully at the Blenheim Community Village on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 at the age of 85. David is the son of the late Cornelius and Muriel Hope (Alford) Vannatto.

Beloved husband of Dorothea (Beattie). Loving father of Paul Vannatto (June), Tim Vannatto, Rita Vannatto and Ruth Ross (Charles). Dear grandfather of Jonathan, Nathan, Aaron (Alyssa), Cathy Moore (David), Beth-Ann Long (Jason) and Deborah. Great-grandfather of Nicholas Vannatto.

Brother of the late Donald. Uncle of Neal.

David had amazing mechanical talents and was able to make or fix almost anything. As operator of Vans Plastics and Engravings in Wallaceburg, he built his own equipment to vacuum form and fabricate plastic.

His deep love of music eventually led him to form the Master’s Team, a musical group that traveled across North America ministering in churches, prisons, rescue missions and many other areas.

The family received relatives and friends at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home in Wallaceburg from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. The funeral was celebrated at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. Interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in London.

Ruby Newton

Mrs. Ruby Katherine (Miller) Newton of Listowel passed away at Caressant Care, Listowel on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at the age of 97.

Beloved wife of the late Sanford Newton. Dear mother of Sandra and Robert Gilkinson of Atwood, Carol Newton and her partner Terry Wilken of Listowel, Lynda and Cornelius Weyers of Cambridge, and Joan Newton and her partner Dale Taylor of Listowel. Also survived by four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Predeceased by her sisters Elsie Mehring and Dorothy Miller, and brothers Norman Miller and Cecil Miller.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 1-4 p.m. The funeral service was held at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Listowel on Monday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. Memorial donations to the MS Society or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.

Doug Scott

Mr. Douglas Clifford Scott of Listowel passed away at Victoria Hospital, London on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at the age of 72.

Beloved husband of the late Kathy Scott. Dear dad of Sandy and Mike Johnston of Listowel, Gary Scott and Keli Mersereau of London, and Ron Scott of Listowel. Admired grandpa of Ryan and Nicole Johnston, Heather and Scott Dafoe, Shane, Racheal, and Mercedez, and special great-grandpa of Jazlin and Jayda Johnston.

Brother of Velma Morphy of Stratford, Barb and Joe Currie, and Bill and Dorothy Scott all of Listowel, Lawrence Scott of Goderich, and Earl and Anita Scott of London.

Predeceased by his son Michael Douglas Scott in infancy.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Monday, Oct. 22 from 6-9 p.m. The funeral service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 12 noon. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
