Dorothea Freeborn

Mrs. Dorothea Merle (Gibson) Freeborn of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at the age of 83.

Beloved wife of the late Lorne Freeborn. Dear mother of Douglas Freeborn of Listowel, and Helen Hinton of London, and mother-in-law of Barry Morgan of Brockville.

Grandmother of Nicole Freeborn and Rade, Mark Freeborn, Maryann Morgan and Nick, James Morgan and Lee, Jonathan Morgan, and Sarah Morgan and Mike. Great-grandmother of Misha, Zachary and Daniella.

Sister of Ken and Arlie Gibson of Glencoe.

Predeceased by her daughter Nancy Morgan, her brother Edgar Gibson, her son-in-law Ron Hinton, and her sisters-in-law Eileen Gibson and Toni Gibson.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Calvary United Church, Listowel, on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Calvary United Church, Listowel or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Patricia Grain

Patricia Grain of Kitchener passed away, after many courageous battles with her health, on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 at the age of 59.

Patricia was the beloved daughter of late Orton and Margaret (Proctor) Grain. She was the loving sister of Gary and Brenda Grain of Listowel;     aunt of Craig and Danielle Grain of Belle River, and Sarah and Robert Hicks of St. Jacobs; and great-aunt of Logan and Carson Grain, and Ella and Lucas Hicks.

Patricia will be missed by her many friends.

A service to celebrate Patricia’s life was held at Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m., with reception to follow. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the K-W Humane Society would be appreciated.

Violet Purdon

Violet Myrtle Purdon, formerly of Palmerston and Culross Township, passed away at Caressant Care in Harriston on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at the age of 90. Born in Venn, Saskatchewan on May 5, 1922 to the late Arnold and Mary (Mighton) Scott.

Beloved wife of Russell Purdon of Harriston. Dear mother of Richard and Betty Penner of North Cobolt, Garry Penner of Missouri and Diane and Richard Marshall of RR 2 Drumbo. Remembered by Russell’s children, Bryan and Jan Purdon of Goderich, Milton and Diane Purdon of Alberta, Thelma Dougherty of B.C. and Linda and Dennis Coghlin of RR 2 Listowel. Missed by eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Survived by sisters Ruby and Bonar Jarvis of Wingham, Bernice and Harold Neumiller of Saskatchewan, Loretta and Ross Krauter of B.C., Vivian Scott of Wadena, Margaret and Don Pashishnek of Alberta, brother Eugene and Ruth Scott of Saskatchewan and brother-in-law Roger Dillabough. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband Abram Penner, daughter Carol Penner, sisters Viola Scott in infancy, Ruth Taylor (Alvin), Vera Holderness (Edgar) and Dorothy Holmstrom (Norman).

A private family service will be held in the spring. Interment Culross-Teeswater Cemetery.

Velma Morphy

Mrs. Velma Laverne (Scott) Morphy of Stratford, and formerly of Listowel, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital, with Marie, Debbie, and Jackee by her side, on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at the age of 79.

Beloved wife of the late Tom Morphy. Dear mother of Marie Blackwell (Jim) of Stratford, Dennis Morphy of Florida, and Debbie Duval (Dave) of Mitchell. Grandmother of Joe Blackwell (Krista), Jackee Wall (Kurt), Jesse Duval, Sammi Duval, Chelsea Clipson, and Dallas Morphy (Lisa). Great-grandmother of Brinlee Wall and Colby Morphy.

Sister of Barb and Joe Currie, and Bill and Dorothy Scott all of Listowel, Lawrence Scott of Goderich, and Earl and Anita Scott of London, and aunt to several nieces and nephews. Also fondly remembered by her cherished friend Lorna.

Predeceased by her parents Fred and Tressia (Clayton) Scott, son Joey Morphy, and brothers Doug Scott and Stan Scott.

Velma is dearly remembered by the never-ending list of children she helped raise as foster children for over 35 years who will always consider her their mother, as well as many foster grandchildren and foster great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. until the time of the celebration of life at 11 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel followed by a time to reflect and share at a reception at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel.

Memorial donations to North Perth Community Hospice or the OSPCA would be appreciated.

Nancy Morgan (Freeborn)

Nancy Morgan (Freeborn), of Brockville, passed away suddenly at University of Ottawa Heart Institute on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the age of 59.

She was loved by her husband Barry; her four children, MaryAnn (Nick) of New York, James (Lee) of B.C., Sarah (Mike) of Toronto, and Jonathan, at home.

She was the grandmother of two, daughter of Dorothea (Gibson) Freeborn of Listowel, and sister of Douglas Freeborn of Listowel and Helen Hinton of London.

Nancy was predeceased by her father Lorne (1995) and her brother-in-law Ron (2002).

A family gathering was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, with burial to follow in Surrey, B.C.

Kathleen Tinkess

Mrs. Kathleen Elizabeth (Dewe) Tinkess of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at the age of 76.

Beloved wife of Ken Tinkess. Dear mother of James Tinkess of Duncan, B.C., Allan Tinkess, Joy Kerwin and Dave Ross, and Cathy and John Borton, all of Listowel, May and Dave Albrecht of Clinton, and Melody and Fraser Hayden of Gorrie. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Sister of Rose Tinkess, Sheila Dewe, Bonnie and Ken Cameron, and Deanna Spencer, all of Ingleside, Brenda and Roger Lauzon of Chatham, and Morris and Barbara Dewe of Cornwall.

Predeceased by her brothers Ray, Fred Jr., Gerald, and Dennis Dewe, and her brother-in-law Ivan Tinkess.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 7-9 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, where the funeral service was held on Friday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to the Arthritis Society would be appreciated.
